The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service

This is the second year I have participated in the Drovers Run. The 2023 event saw my lifetime school mates, Tom & Joe (co pilots) plus myself raise $7400 for this very worthy cause. We travelled over 5500km, mainly on tracks and had a wow of a time, whilst supporting the Rescue Choppers.

This year, my oldest daughter, Caitlin who is a trauma nurse at Royal Melbourne Hospital and a dedicated 4WD nut is co piloting with me!

Every second year the event organisers run a longer event. 2024 is such a year. The Drovers Run this year starts in Cobar early August and heads through west NSW and SW Queensland before heading on the Cordillo Downs road to Birdsville. We travel to "Big Red" and then into the Simpson Desert to Poeppel Corner followed by a few days along the Hay River Track. Then its off to Tobermorey Station, Mt Isa, McKinlay (Croc Dundee's home!) and Longreach. Then we are on the "home stretch" (1400KM lol) to Ilfracombe, Charleville and Dirranbandi. The iconic Pally Pub in Pallamallawa hosts our final night before we finish at the Westpac Heli Base in Tamworth. All up thats 4500km on "The Run" plus another 2400km for Caitlin and myself to travel to the event from Vic!

By entering the Drover's Run Outback Adventure we are making a significant contribution to the lifesaving work of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. The charity provides urgent aeromedical assistance to over 1.5 million people, from Pre-Hospital Emergencies such as motor vehicle, farming and industrial accidents to Inter-Hospital Transfers of critically ill or injured. As a flying intensive care unit, the crew is able to stabilise patients on the scene or in the air before safely and rapidly delivering them to the most appropriate hospital.

All funds raised on the Drovers Run Outback Adventure will help keep the Rescue Helicopters ready to respond to those who need it most.
