Join the 11th Annual Drover’s Run 4WD Outback Adventure for the journey of a lifetime. Explore some of the most iconic destinations in outback Australia while raising funds for the Northern NSW Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
Starting in Nyngan on Saturday 1st August 2026 for a meet and greet and catch-up dinner before heading off the next morning. Over the next fifteen days you will cover nearly 4,500kms through western NSW, the stunning Flinders Ranges, for the first time we visit the coast along the amazing Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, and return via Menindee Lakes and the Central West of NSW.
Day one, from Nyngan we head south-west to Ivanhoe, then loop back to Wilcannia on the banks of the Darling River for the night, then west through Broken Hill, crossing the border and into the Flinders Ranges and its breathtaking scenery. A night at Bendelby Ranges Station which has become a mecca for 4WD enthusiasts, then north past Wilpena Pound as we pick up some of the incredible tracks which swathe through the Flinders. We drop into the historic village of Blinman, then onto the outstanding Angarochina Tourist Park where we camp overnight right in the middle of the Flinders Ranges.
The next day we wind our way through Parachilna Gorge, and then head north stopping at the historic Farina Ruins, and onto the historic Marree village which marks the southern starting point of the famous Birdsville Track. We however head west from Maree and travel the Oodnadatta Track for a portion of it's length, then swing south to the mining town of Roxby Downs, and onto the village of Kingoonya which marks the start of the Gawler Ranges Track.
A day spent driving through the incredible timbered features of the Gawler Ranges, until the landscape opens up into rich agricultural land, and then in front of us the Great Australian Bight. We wind our way to the stunning village of Streaky Bay, home for the next two nights allowing us to take in some of the ruggedness of this coastline, and the history of this area.
From Streaky Bay, we head south along the coastline, dropping in to Point Labbatt which hosts a huge colony of sea lions, and from there it's a free day to head to Coffin Bay, you can either head straight down the bitumen, or better still take advantage of the endless number of scenic attractions just a short detour off the main road. Two nights in Coffin Bay will make sure everyone has had the opportunity to sample some of their famous Coffin Bay Oysters, learn more of the history of this beautiful coastline, and take in some of the awesome 4WD tracks.
Leaving Coffin Bay we head east across the bottom of Eyre Peninsula to Port Lincoln, the major city on the peninsula with the opportunity to look at some of the wealth that has come out of the tuna industry over the years. Back on the road as we head up the eastern side of Eyre Peninsula with a stop tonight at the beautiful town of Cowell with it's stunning foreshore area fronting on to Franklin Harbour.
From Cowell, we travel on the bitumen through the industrial city of Whyalla, then another major industrial city, the historic Port Augusta, and then to the equally historic village of Jamestown, birthplace of the iconic RM Williams. From here we begin the long journey home, a day on the dirt as we travel south of the Barrier Highway, crossing back into NSW at a remote crossing about 200kms from Broken Hill, then into the Kinchega National Park where we wind our way through the many Menindee Lakes to the fantastic Copi Hollow Caravan Park for a night, one of the best sunsets you can ever see.
On the road again we head east, through the towns of Ivanhoe, Mossgiel, and the very attractive Hillston, to our next night at Lake Cargelligo, home of thousands of pelicans when we mapped the trip out. Second last day we follow the Lachlan River, a stop at the brilliant Condoblin Tourist Information Centre with the awesome Utes in the Paddock installation.
Historic Central West villages of Tullamore, Albert and Trangie, then to our last night stop at Gulargmbone where we celebrate the successes, and then via Coonabarabran to our finish line at our NENW base in Tamworth on Sunday 16th August.
Sounds like a lot in fifteen days but by the end you will have experienced so much of what is great about the outback, in an escorted adventure, with wonderful people. This is a trip of a lifetime so don't miss out.
