Support Our Fundraising for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service

In February 2024, our father, husband, and dear friend was involved in a serious and life-threatening water ski racing accident on the Clarence River. Due to the quick and heroic actions of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and all medical teams he is still with us today.

After the accident, he was immediately rushed to Coffs Harbour Hospital for initial treatment by road. Due to the severity of his injuries, it was quickly determined that he needed specialised care that could only be provided at a higher-level facility. Without hesitation, the Westpac Helicopter Service came to the rescue, airlifting him to the Gold Coast University Hospital. It was a life-saving decision that proved crucial.

Upon arrival at the hospital, he underwent emergency chest surgery, followed by  3 weeks on life support. Over the course of his recovery, he spent a total of 60 days at the Gold Coast University Hospital, receiving expert care from a dedicated medical team.

Throughout this incredibly challenging time, we witnessed firsthand how critical the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is in providing rapid access to life-saving care. Without their service, it’s hard to imagine how we would have managed this ordeal.

To show our gratitude and help ensure that this vital service continues to save lives, we are participating in the Byron Coastal Charity Walk. Our team, Bunch of Choppers is walking/running a distance of 36km, 24km, or 12km to raise funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help ensure that this incredible service can continue to operate and respond to emergencies just like the one our family and friends experienced.
