My reason why!

When I first completed this walk in 2021, I had never known anyone who had needed to use this service. Since then both my family and that of my walking buddy has needed to use the helicopter to transport a loved one for much needed medical care. 

On the 22^nd June 2021 my father in law was rushed to GBH in a critical condition. It was quickly realised he had 2 large brain tumours and may not survive the day. After many more tests and talks with Gold Coast specialists they called the Rescue Helicopter to take him to the Gold Coast. There the specialists confirmed our worst fears being there was nothing they could do. However the medication they gave him, released some pressure and brought him back to being conscious. This brought the family time so a new granddaughter whom he had never met could fly with her parents and sisters from WA to be at his bed side. He was then transferred back to Grafton  where family and friends could visit and reminisce.

Sadly on the 29^th June 2021 he passed away surrounded by his 4 kids and their partners. If it wasn’t for the rescue helicopter he would not of been able to spend his last days surrounded by all those that cared for him. Something I will be forever grateful for.

Amazing to think 2025 is my 4th time taking part in this beautiful event.
