2024 Charity walk for Westpac Helicopter rescue

The Rescue Helicopter Service, taking part in the 2024 Byron Coastal Charity Walk.

Every dollar raised contributes to keeping the Rescue Helicopter Service available 24/7, 365 days a year.
 
The AW139 Helicopters cost $1,000 per hour in fuel, $1,000 per hour to run the engine, $1,500 for the airframe and for $500 avionics, that’s a total of $4,000 per hour.

What a day

Sunday 5th May
We started our walk at around 7.50am was was finished by 10.24am.
We had heavy rain and showers along the way. A lot of beach to walk and where the tea tree lakes enter the beach areas we had to decide whether to remove shoes to walk through or get wet shoes and socks.
I chose to get wet shoes and socks and survived but the weight of the shoes after that definitely slowed me down.
Saw a group of girls that chose to sacrifice their ponchos to cover their shoes to walk bent over through the water. Clever but not sure I would have liked being soaked to the bone the rest of the way.
I was wet post walk and enjoyed a hot bath, rolled out my muscles and have woken this morning feeling good.
