In July I was swept out to sea while bodysurfing big bombs at Tallow Beach, Byron Bay.
Having grown up surfing in Byron, I am in the water daily — an extremely confident swimmer/surfer — I never in a billion years imagined I would find myself in need of the rescue chopper — it’s sobering that I wouldn’t be here today without it…
For the month of October I’m jumping out of bed daily* at 4:30am to chip away at the target with 30–40 kms on my analogue mountain bike before work in order to meet or exceed my target of 1,000kms for October, raising funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
My mother and also my brother-in-law have needed to be transported by the chopper in the last years — an amazing service that I hope you’ll never need.
